George Swain is a certified executive coach, trained at the Berkeley Executive Coaching Institute, with over 35 years of experience leading in schools and other complex organizations. He is currently the Chief Operating Officer at the New York State Association of Independent Schools (NYSAIS). He has served as a senior school and association leader, designed and led multiple cohort programs for experienced and emerging leaders, and is a sought-after expert on organizational change.
George holds a B.A. in Sociology and Anthropology from Earlham College, an M.A. in History from Binghamton University, and an M.Ed. in Organizational Leadership from Teachers College, Columbia University. He has received both the Klingenstein and NAIS/EE Ford Fellowships, is a Certified Association Executive (CAE), and holds a Certificate in Nonprofit Board Consulting from BoardSource. George has also chaired and held other leadership roles on the boards of several nonprofit organizations.
George is passionate about culture, hiking, traveling, and spending time with his wife and grown children. An experienced endurance cyclist, George is never very far from a bicycle and writes a regular column for a national cycling journal.
